Role: Senior Software Engineer / COBOL Developers / Engineers

Work Location: London, Glasgow or Newcastle (Office based)

Duration: 6 Months+


Our banking client is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer/COBOL Developerswith hands-on expertise in FIS Systematics to join a dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting core banking applications, with a focus on the FIS Systematics suite. You will collaborate closely with business analysts, project managers, and other technology teams to deliver high-quality solutions for our financial services clients.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL programs within the FIS Systematics environment (e.g., IMPACS, ALS, ST, etc.).
  • Analyze business and technical requirements to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues in a timely manner.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system integration, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation for new and existing applications.
  • Provide production support and participate in on-call rotation as needed.

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Proven experience in COBOL development, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong hands-on experience with FIS Systematics core banking modules.
  • Proficiency in JCL, VSAM, CICS, and DB2.
  • Experience with batch and online processing.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, change management, and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable skills/knowledge/experience: (As applicable)
  • Prior experience with large-scale banking system migrations or upgrades.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience working with global teams.
