Job Description
Willmott Dixon is looking to recruit a Senior Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Manager to join our North East team (local regional office based in Gateshead), providing guidance and support to all our construction sites based within our North East region. This role would ideally suit someone based in the Darlington, Middlesborough or Stockton on Tees area so that you are centrally based to support these projects. Willmott Dixon support hybrid working with flexibility to work from home 1 to 2 days per week when not on-site or in the office.\n\nAbout the Role:\nAs the Senior SHE Manager, you will be accountable for ensuring successful safety, health and (low risk) environmental management across multiple construction projects within the North East region and will provide clear feedback on performance.
You will advise project teams on compliance with SHE legal and company policy requirements, especially high-risk activities and will audit project teams on compliance with legal SHE requirements and group policies. The successful candidate must have in-depth SHE experience within the construction industry and will be expected to hold valid CSCS & SMSTS qualifications as well as TechIOSH, IEMA, SEATS and a Level 5 qualification in occupational safety and health.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nMonitor, advise, support, enforce, and report on health, safety, and environmental standards.\nEnsure project teams are equipped to manage SHE risks and opportunities effectively.\nConduct audits, site visits, and investigations to guarantee compliance with legal requirements and company policies.\nAnalyse SHE performance data and provide insights to drive continuous improvement in the region\nCollaborate with internal teams (including pre-construction) and external stakeholders (including supply chain partners) to share best practices and foster a proactive safety culture\nLead investigations into accidents, incidents and service strikes, establishing root cause and implementing corrective actions promptly\nDeliver health, safety and environmental training to project team and supply chain partners\nSupport with accreditations and associated submissions for audit at BSI at group and LCO level\nSupport in selection and onboarding of supply chain partners from PQQ to onsite\nSupport in bids to meet our customer health, safety and environmental needs.Essential and Desirable Criteria\n\nEssential Qualifications/skills:\n\nLevel 5 qualification in Occupational Safety & Health.\nTechIOSH membership and relevant SHE certifications (e.g., IEMA, SEATS, SMSTS).\nValid driving license and appropriate CSCS Card.\nIn-depth health, safety and environmental knowledge within the construction sector.Desired Skills:\n\nProven experience in managing SHE management systems, audits, and performance.\nStrong communication and influencing skills.\nAbility to simplify complex SHE topics for diverse audiences.\nSelf-motivated with a positive attitude and resilience to hold teams to account\nCertIOSH membershipAdditional Information\n\nWillmott Dixon embraces in the workplace and will consider flexible and agile working.
