Role: Senior RF Design Engineer
Location: Hertfordshire, Hybrid
Salary: Up to £65,000 depending on experience + bonus + benefits
About the Role
Our client is looking for a hands on RF Design Engineer to research, design, and test advanced radio-frequency technology for integration into complex defence systems. You will work on cutting-edge RF circuits, prototypes, and modifications, ensuring designs perform reliably in challenging environments.
This role offers a blend of practical laboratory work and technical design, giving you the opportunity to see your designs through from concept to testing.
Key Responsibilities
*
Design, prototype, and test RF circuits across a wide frequency range (30 MHz – 30 GHz)
*
Work on components such as LNAs, HPAs, filters, oscillators, synthesizers, and modulators
*
Conduct design proving tests and trials in the laboratory
*
Apply knowledge of EMC, vibration, and thermal considerations for harsh environments
*
Use RF design software (e.g., Microwave Office) for circuit layout and analysis
*
Support design for manufacture and test, liaising with production teams
*
Document and present results, issues, and solutions to internal teams and customers
Experience & Skills Required
*
Strong practical RF design experience at the component and circuit level
*
Hands-on lab skills: soldering, fault-finding, use of spectrum analyzers, VNAs, power meters
*
Good knowledge of analogue, digital, and power supply design
*
Experience designing RF for harsh environments
*
Skilled in RF simulation and layout tools (Microwave Office or equivalent)
*
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
*
Team player with initiative and a passion for electronics
