\n\nWhat You’ll Be Doing:\n
As a Senior Radiation Physicist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Your responsibilities will include:
\n
\n
Conducting radiological safety assessments\n
\n
Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics
\n
Developing and deploying radiation detection systems\n
\n
Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system\n
\n
Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations\n
\n
Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel
\n
Developing ALARP justifications to support design decisions
\n
\n\nYour Skills and Experience:\n
We’re looking for candidates who possess:
\n
\n
A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field
\n
Demonstrable knowledge/experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety\n
\n
Experience with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications\n
\n
Familiarity with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP)
\n

\n\nAbout the Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:\n
Our team is at the forefront of designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across various submarine programs at different engineering lifecycle stages, focusing on:

Designing new shields
\n
Providing design change assessments
\n
Conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning
\n
\n
We also conduct radiological safety studies, design novel radiation detectors, and develop capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all submarine roles.
