£55,000-£65,000 + Car Allowance, Pension, Private Healthcare, 25 Days' Leave + Bank Holidays

I am currently working in partnership with a leading UK main contractor and supporting them with their search for a commercially astute and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team delivering a major capital works project in Newport, South Wales.

This is a pivotal commercial leadership role on a high-value, bespoke infrastructure scheme, offering long-term security and excellent career prospects. The successful candidate will be joining a well-established contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex, technically challenging projects across the UK.

The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take full end-to-end commercial responsibility for the project, acting as the commercial lead and primary interface with the client and supply chain. The role will be site-based three days per week, with flexibility for the remaining time.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Full commercial management of a major capital works project from pre-construction through to final account
  • Administration and management of NEC contracts, including change control, compensation events, and cost forecasting
  • Leading cost reporting, CVRs, cashflow management, and risk/opportunity management
  • Managing and developing a Cost Clerk, with potential oversight of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor
  • Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team to ensure commercial and programme objectives are met
  • Client engagement and contribution to commercial strategy on a bespoke, high-value scheme

Senior Quantity Surveyors considering this opportunity must be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience operating at Senior QS level on major infrastructure, civil engineering or utilities projects
  • Strong, hands-on experience working under NEC forms of contract
  • Background with a main contractor delivering complex, high-value or bespoke projects
  • Ability to lead commercial processes autonomously while mentoring junior team members
  • Confident stakeholder management skills, particularly with clients and key subcontractors
  • Experience in the water or utilities sector would be advantageous, though not essential.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be offered an exciting position that comes with a competitive salary & package that includes:

  • Starting salary £55,000 - £65,000 (depending on experience)
  • £5,000 Car allowance or company car
  • Private healthcare
  • Pension scheme
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

This is an excellent opportunity to join a flagship project with a contractor that invests in its people and offers genuine long-term career progression.
