Your New Role:
Civil Engineering Contractor with a growing team and enviable footprint of projects across the country have a requirement for an experienced SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR to join their team on a permanent basis.
The successful SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR will have a demonstrable track record working within the Civil Engineering sector. Due to the extremely busy nature of the business at present, you will be expected to hit the ground running and assist in completing projects on time.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding Contractor as they extend their presence in the Scottish Construction Industry.
The SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR will take full commercial and contractual responsibility for concurrent civil engineering projects, from pre-contract to final account. Though primarily office-based, the role will involve travel across multiple projects as required.
Responsibilities:
Pre-Contract / Tender Stage
· Support tendering and business development by contributing to pricing, commercial input, and preparation of cost plans and estimates.
· Assist in defining client requirements and aligning them with our scope of works.
· Provide input into procurement strategy, including drafting of contract documents and tender submissions.
· Advise on contractual risk, value engineering, and commercial strategy from the outset.
Post-Contract / Delivery Stage
· Take full commercial ownership of projects, ensuring cost control, profitability, and compliance with contractual obligations.
· Lead subcontract procurement, including drafting orders and managing commercial performance of packages.
· Prepare and manage budgets, forecast final costs, and monthly valuations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
· Monitor project costs and cash flow, identifying cost-saving opportunities and financial risks.
· Prepare, submit, and negotiate Early Warnings, Compensation Events, and variations in line with the contract.
· Confident in drafting claims for variations and extensions of time, working closely with the planner to ensure accuracy and programme alignment.
· Draft and manage client Applications for Payment and assess subcontractor applications.
· Collaborate with site teams to ensure accurate progress tracking, valuation of works, and alignment with programme and budget.
· Regular site visits to maintain strong relationships and ensure understanding of current and upcoming works.
· Reconcile project costs against budgets and provide forecasts to completion.
Contractual & Commercial Support
· Provide strategic commercial advice to Project Managers, particularly regarding claims, disputes, and contractual interpretation.
· Perform risk and value management throughout the project lifecycle.
· Maintain awareness and application of various Conditions of Contract used throughout the UK.
· Ensure robust contract administration is maintained across all projects.
Candidate Requirements:
· 5+ years (post qualification) experience as a QS or Senior QS within civil engineering, ideally on power or energy infrastructure projects.
· Experience with common Contractual arrangements (NEC, FIDIC, etc.).
· Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
· Proven ability and confidence to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
· Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
· Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or similar.
