Job Description
Job Title: Manging Quantity Surveyor
Location: Perth, Scotland. The role can be remote.
Project: Highways.
Salary: £75-90K base salary, plus car/ allowance, travel expenses, plus accommodation paid, company pension.
Our client, a Tier One Civil Engineering Contractor is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a major Highways programme based near Peth, Scotland
The successful candidate will initially be based on this project and will be responsible for leading a team of quantity surveyors while overseeing the day-to-day commercial activities on site. The role will report directly to the Senior Commercial Manager. The project has an estimated value of £150 million and is scheduled for completion in late 2028. Further to this our Client has a strong pipeline of work in the Region covering other major schemes within the Infrastructure sector.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Project Quantity Surveyor, you will have specific responsibility for:
Acting as the primary point of contact with the NEC Project Manager on all commercial and contractual matters. Managing contractual claims and ensuring appropriate and accurate record keeping is maintained. Identifying, assessing, and managing project risks and opportunities. Monitoring and reporting on project outputs and commercial performance against approved budgets and plans. Supporting project cash flow management and financial forecasting. Preparing, negotiating, and agreeing subcontractor and supplier pricing and contractual terms. Overseeing the contract administration of all subcontract packages, while taking direct responsibility for key packages and ensuring final accounts are agreed and closed in a timely manner. Ensuring the timely preparation and issue of commercial and contractual correspondence. Preparing and reviewing monthly cost reports in collaboration with the wider project team. Maintaining and reviewing risk registers, variation trackers, and extension of time (EOT) trackers, ensuring they are updated monthly and included in project reports. Leading change management within the commercial team, with guidance from the Senior Commercial Manager.
Skills & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline. Familiarity with Civil Engineering Industry, especially highways. 5+ years of cost management experience on major civil infrastructure projects Strong experience working with NEC3/4 contracts (essential). Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and contractors. A structured and analytical approach, capable of interpreting complex data and presenting clear solutions. Ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining a strong focus on quality and results. Excellent analytical and reporting skills, including experience preparing decision-support papers and progress reports.
