Job Description
Senior Quantity Surveyor - High-Rise Project (Manchester)\n\nManchester - £75,000 - £90,000 + package \n\nThe Opportunity\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial responsibility for a high-profile high-rise project in Manchester. You will work closely with the project and commercial teams to ensure successful delivery, manage risk, and maximise commercial returns.\n\nThis role is ideal for a commercially astute QS with main contractor or builder-focused experience, confident in managing large-scale construction projects and leading a small team of commercial staff.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nTake ownership of the commercial management for assigned project(s) or elements\nImplement and integrate the project commercial strategy\nAct as the commercial representative to clients and supply chain, managing contractual issues\nPrepare tenders, evaluate and select supply chain partners, negotiate and finalise orders\nPrepare and agree client and supply chain valuations, certificates, and payments\nManage change control, variations, and ensure robust records are maintained\nUpdate projected final accounts and prepare supply chain final accounts in a timely manner\nParticipate in value engineering and design development discussions\nMaintain independent oversight of commercial reporting, cash flow, and risk/opportunity registers\nLead and mentor junior commercial staff, ensuring high standards\nSupport pre-construction and tender activities as required\nEnsure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and commercial systems\n\nPerson Specification\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\nProven ability to manage large-scale or complex projects and multiple stakeholders\nCommercially aware, proactive, and confident in decision-making\nExperience mentoring and leading commercial teams\nKnowledge of construction technologies and their commercial implications\nExperience drafting contractual correspondence and managing disputes\nSkilled in procurement, negotiation, and letting complex subcontractsQualifications & Experience:\n\nDegree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management\nMinimum 10 years' experience in construction and commercial management\nProfessional membership (RICS / MCIOB)\n\nValues & Competencies\n\nWorks collaboratively and builds strong relationships\nProfessional, reliable, and proactive\nTakes ownership of work and demonstrates strong commercial stewardship\nSeeks continuous improvement and innovative solutions\nActs with integrity and transparency, generating sustainable long-term results\n\nPackage & Benefits\n\nCompetitive salary: £75,000 - £90,000\nBenefits package including car allowance, travel allowance, private medical insurance, pension, and life assurance\nCareer development opportunities within a growing construction team \n\nApply: If you're interested in this opportunity, then please get in touch today with our Commercial Specialist, Mark Harris. \n\nBuilding Careers UK specialises in Construction and Property recruitment and serves as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and an employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
