Job Description
One of our long standing civil engineering contractor clients are seeking a full time Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their established commercial team in the South West of England.\nThe Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for leading the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple marine infrastructure projects, ensuring financial efficiency, risk management, and value optimisation. This role involves high-level cost control, strategic procurement, contract management, and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful and high-quality project delivery. As a senior member of the Commercial Team, the Senior Quantity Surveyor provides guidance and mentoring to junior surveyors while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company objectives.\nKey Responsibilities:\nOversee the financial management of multiple marine infrastructure projects, ensuring profitability and efficiency.\nDevelop detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for projects.\nConduct cost-value reconciliation's (CVRs) and financial performance reviews.\nIdentify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and commercial improvements.\nManage project profit and loss (P&L) reporting and ensure alignment with financial targets.\nManage the preparation, negotiation, and administration of high-value contracts.\nEnsure compliance with contractual obligations, legal requirements, and industry standards.\nIdentify, assess, and mitigate contractual and financial risks on projects.\nLead the preparation and resolution of claims, variations, and disputes.\nDevelop strategies for contract negotiation and dispute resolution.\nOversee the procurement strategy, ensuring competitive pricing and value-driven selection.\nEvaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, negotiating optimal terms and conditions.\nEnsure robust supply chain management for marine infrastructure projects.\nManage cost benchmarking and market analysis to support commercial decision-making.\nProvide mentorship, training, and leadership to junior and project quantity surveyors.\nSupport the development of commercial strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.\nDrive collaboration between project teams, finance, and operational departments.\nContribute to the development of commercial policies and best practices within the company.\nLead cost monitoring, reporting, and financial forecasting for projects.\nEnsure all financial records, reports, and documentation are accurate and audit-ready.\nDrive compliance with health, safety, environmental (HSE), and regulatory requirements.\nRegularly present financial performance updates to senior management and stakeholders.\nEstablish and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies.\nAct as a key commercial representative during client meetings, negotiations, and progress reviews.\nWork closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Commercial Directors to align financial and operational objectives.\nKey Skills & Competencies:\nExpertise in quantity surveying, cost control, and contract management.\nStrong knowledge of marine infrastructure, civil engineering, and offshore construction.\nProficiency in contract administration and negotiation.\nExcellent financial forecasting, reporting, and analytical skills.\nStrong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management abilities.\nHigh level of proficiency in cost management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).\nExceptional problem-solving, risk management, and decision-making skills.\nStrong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments.\nQualifications & Experience:\nDegree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.\nProfessional accreditation is highly desirable.\nMinimum 7+ years of experience in a senior quantity surveying role, preferably within marine infrastructure, port development, dredging, coastal defence, or offshore construction.\nProven track record in managing high-value contracts and complex commercial negotiations.\nExperience leading and mentoring teams within a commercial environment.\nAdditional Information:\nFlexibility to travel to various project sites.\nThe role may require overnight stays and extended periods on-site when necessary.\nStrong understanding of HSE regulations and marine construction best practices.\nOn offer is a competitive salary package including a generous bonus scheme, car allowance, death in service and healthcare
