With a strong emphasis on technical quality, efficiency and collaboration, it offers a progressive environment for structural engineers seeking to shape the built environment in complex urban settings.\n\nThe Principal Structural Engineer will take responsibility for leading the structural design and delivery of permanent works across a variety of civil engineering and building projects.

Working at the interface of design and construction, the role involves producing and reviewing structural designs, supporting site teams, and ensuring structural integrity across all phases of a project. The successful candidate will combine advanced technical expertise with strong leadership and coordination skills.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead the structural design and analysis of complex permanent works such as basements, shafts, retaining structures, foundations, bridges, and superstructures using steel, concrete, and composite materials.\nEnsure designs meet all relevant standards and regulations, including Eurocodes, BS codes, CDM Regulations, and IStructE guidance.\nProduce and oversee detailed structural calculations, design reports, drawings, and technical specifications.\nProvide mentoring, support, and technical oversight to engineers and CAD technicians within the team.\nCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to ensure cohesive and buildable design solutions.\nReview and approve design submissions and ensure quality assurance procedures are followed throughout the design process.\nSupport construction teams with sequencing, temporary condition assessments, and site inspections during the build phase.\nDrive innovation, sustainability, and value engineering within the design process.\nAttend project meetings, contribute to design reviews, and represent the company in professional forums and stakeholder engagements.Requirements\n\nDegree in Structural or Civil Engineering (MEng/BEng or equivalent).\nChartered Engineer (CEng) status with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).\nSignificant experience in the design and delivery of structural elements within infrastructure or complex civil engineering projects, particularly in urban environments.\nStrong understanding of structural behaviour, design codes, and industry standards.\nProficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., Tekla Structural Designer, Robot, Tedds, STAAD, AutoCAD, Revit).\nDemonstrated leadership ability with excellent communication and coordination skills.\nA collaborative, problem-solving mindset and a commitment to delivering high-quality, practical engineering solutions.What's on Offer\n\nCompetitive salary and comprehensive benefits package\nPerformance-related bonus scheme\nFlexible working arrangements, including hybrid office/site working\nSupport for ongoing professional development and chartership (if applicable)\nOpportunity to contribute to landmark infrastructure and civil engineering projects in LondonApply if you think this could be a worth a conversation!\n\nAldwych Consulting values and promotes equality.
