Senior / Principal Process Safety Engineer (permanent role)Location - Belfast, Cardiff, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Leicester or Liverpool Salary will be competitive and aligned with experience and qualificationsOverviewOur client, a leading consultancy within the high-hazard engineering sector, is seeking a Senior or Principal Technical Safety Engineer to support a growing portfolio of UK and international projects.This role will focus on delivering high-quality technical safety and risk engineering work across sectors including energy, chemicals and other high-hazard industries. The successful candidate will operate in a client-facing consultancy environment, supporting both project delivery and wider business objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will deliver high-quality technical work across a range of process safety projects.Typical responsibilities will include:Delivery of Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), including onshore studiesSupporting or leading development of COMAH Safety Reports and Offshore Safety CasesIdentification and assessment of major accident hazards and risk profilesApplication of ALARP principles and recommendation of appropriate risk reduction measuresParticipation in, and ideally leadership of, Process Hazard Analysis workshops (HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, FMECA, Bowtie)Technical report writing and preparation of client deliverablesSupporting multidisciplinary project teams across consultancy projectsClient interaction and contribution to commercial/project delivery discussionsOccasional UK and international travel for client and site-based work.Candidate RequirementsCandidates should demonstrate a strong technical background in process safety, engineering risk management or a related discipline.The successful candidate will:Have several years experience in Technical Safety or Process Safety within a consultancy or high-hazard operating environmentDemonstrate a strong understanding of Quantitative Risk Assessment methodologiesHave knowledge of COMAH Safety Report and/or Offshore Safety Case requirementsBe able to identify, assess and communicate risk, including application of ALARP principlesPossess strong analytical and problem-solving capabilityBe highly numerate with strong technical judgementHave excellent communication and technical report writing skillsBe a reliable team player with a commercial awareness.Desirable ExperienceExperience leading Process Hazard Analysis workshops (HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA etc.)Experience using QRA software such as PHAST and SAFETIProgramming or advanced analytical skills (Excel, VBA, Python, C++)Membership of a relevant professional institution.QualificationsDegree in Engineering or Science (Chemical Engineering or Physics preferred)Professional membership or chartership advantageous.PackageCompetitive salary25 days annual leave plus statutory holidaysUp to 8% matched pensionPrivate healthcareLife assuranceAdditional benefits.Working ArrangementsThe role can be based from one of several UK offices with hybrid working available.
