Job Description
Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer (Water)\n\nWorking Location: UK (Hybrid)\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\n- Deliver mechanical design outputs in line with safety and quality requirements\n\n- Produce calculations, drawings, and technical documentation\n\n- Lead coordination with CAD technicians and support their development\n\n- Manage interfaces with subcontract design teams (including M&E)\n\n- Prepare scopes and review third-party design outputs\n\n- Engage with suppliers, review tenders, and support equipment selection\n\n- Produce reports, specifications, and design investigations\n\n- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and engineering practices\n\n- Manage design changes and ensure accurate documentation\n\n- Support estimation and planning of design activities\n\n- Attend and present at technical and client meetings\n\nRequirements:\n\n- Experience in mechanical design within the UK water sector\n\n- Exposure to both clean water and wastewater projects (infrastructure and non-infrastructure)\n\n- Experience with hydraulic design and associated calculations\n\n- Knowledge of schemes such as UMON or similar upgrade programmes\n\n- Understanding of construction methods and engineering drawing practices\n\n- Chartered Engineer (or working towards)\n\n- Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills\n\n- Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers or technicians\n\n- Degree, HND, or equivalent experience\n\nContract Type: Permanent\n\nWhy This Role Stands Out:\n\n- Step into a senior role with real design ownership\n\n- Work across clean and wastewater projects\n\n- Opportunity to support and guide junior team members\n\n- Exposure to full project lifecycle and supplier engagement\n\n- Strong pipeline of AMP programme work secured\n\nBenefits:\n\n- Comprehensive benefits package\n\nThis is a great opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design delivery while playing a key role in a high-performing engineering team, contributing to impactful long-term water sector projects.
