With more than 150 years of engineering heritage and a global network of professionalsoperatingin over 70 countries, RINA delivers innovative, safe, and sustainable solutions across the full project lifecycle.Our UK operations trace their origins to 1920 through the British Electrical and Allied Industries Research Association and continue to support complex electrical and infrastructure projects across multiple sectors.The RoleThe Senior Consultant will be a member of the RINA Power System Engineering team and will contribute to the effective execution of engineering activities across projects and tenders, including definition and management of technical interfaces and scope of work associated with power system modeling / simulation projects.The role involves leading and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to deliver a wide range of local and international projects for commercial, industrial, and utility clients.Technical ResponsibilitiesLead and deliver power system study activities and projects.Experience preparing project proposals.Load flow analysis.Reactive power capability studies.Electrical loss calculations.Power quality analysis (harmonics, flicker, rapid voltage change).Stability studies for grid compliance.Insulation coordination (EMT), including TRV and ferro‑resonance.Protection coordination and arc‑flash studies.Application of study results to system design, equipment specifications, and understanding of power system plant operation.Required Qualifications & ExperienceMSc or MEng with 7+ years of experience in electrical power,or 7+ years with a master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.Senior‑level proficiency in at least one of the following tools:Experience with grid‑connection applications for generation and load connections to transmission and distribution networks.Experience in grid integration of renewable energy sources and familiarity with relevant grid codes.Technical due diligence of power projects.Design and specification of substation equipment.Experience automating or scripting within power system analysis tools.Strong knowledge of UK grid and distribution codes, including grid code compliance studies.Knowledge and experience with HVDC systems, including complex studies such as subsynchronous oscillations/interactions.Preferred Skills and Professional AttributesDIgSILENT PowerFactoryPSCADSKMETAPEasyPowerPSSEPythonMATLAB/SimulinkMust be eligible to work within the UK and willing to commute orrelocateto Manchester.Become part of a growing global team, working with world‑class professionals and clients in an international market.25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.Option to purchase additional holiday.Up to12 smart‑working days per month (post‑probation).Support for Military Reservists —10 additional paid days.Healthcare cover (family members may be added at additional cost).Professional development support toward chartership.Payment of professional membership fees.Generous recruitment referral bonus.Four half‑days of paid leave for STEM Ambassador activities.
