Senior Payroll Analyst (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)\n\nContract: Fixed Term - Maternity Cover\nLocation: Midlands-Based with Hybrid Working\n\nAre you an experienced Payroll Analyst looking for a rewarding fixed-term opportunity? We're partnering with a large organisation seeking a confident and knowledgeable Senior Payroll Analyst to join their central payroll function for a 12‑month contract.\n\nThis position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple payrolls projects, and enjoys being a key technical reference point within a payroll team.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nAct as the primary escalation point for specialists dealing with complex queries\nEnsure a consistent, high-quality payroll service across the team\nOversee manual statutory payment calculations (e.g., SMP, SPP, SAP, SHPP) and ensure compliance\nComplete month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations, supporting statutory reporting\nReview pension submissions and ensure accurate formatting and reconciliation\nWork with the Payroll Manager to plan for legislative updates and system changes\nSupport onboarding and training of new team members\nIdentify and address any salary-sacrifice-related NMW issues\nAssist with annual planning, including system upgrade testing and process adjustments\nReview and anticipate legislative impacts on payroll operations\nInvestigate and resolve discrepancies and out‑of‑balance accounts\nLiaise with external agencies on complex payroll matters\nProvide payroll expertise for TUPE transfers in and out of the organisation\nSupport ongoing development and testing of payroll contingency plans\nIdentify and implement payroll process improvementsWhat you'll need to succeed:\n\n3-5 years' experience in payroll, including end‑to‑end processing\nCIPP qualification (or equivalent) - desirable\nExperience with large-scale or enterprise payroll systems\nStrong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements\nUnderstanding of occupational pension schemes\nAbility to manage compliance across multiple payrolls\nProject management awareness and ability to plan long‑term changes\nExcellent customer service skills and strong communication\nCollaborative approach with leadership ability\nIntermediate Excel skillsWhat's on offer:\n\n25 days annual leave + option to buy more\nHigh-street discounts and employee perks\nCycle-to-work scheme\nWorkplace pension\nHybrid working, supportive team, and strong development cultureAt Gleeson Recruitment Group, we embrace inclusivity and welcome applicants of all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities.
