SENIOR MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER
Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Salary: Up to £67,500 basic
Benefits:
£4,800 annual car allowance
Mobility allowance for those living 50+ miles from site

Progressive GE and one of the UK's largest independent Engineering and Services Contractors are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer for a major programme of works up at Barrow-in-Furness, specifically around Building Services for Submarine Manufacturing Facilities (including HVAC, MEP & Mechanical Services for New Buildings).

SENIOR MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER ROLE
This Senior Mechanical Project Engineer role will suit someone who enjoys leading M&E engineering delivery on site, solving technical issues in real time and guiding teams through multi‑disciplinary installation works.
You will be joining a respected engineering contractor delivering a major Navy upgrade project within a nuclear‑regulated environment. The Barrow‑in‑Furness site is undergoing a significant modernisation programme to support future submarine production commitments. It is secure, strategically important and offers genuine long‑term stability.
The team is delivering a multi‑disciplinary M&E package worth around £10 million for this phase with further work expected as the wider programme progresses.
The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer Role Involves:
Leading mechanical building services delivery on a complex regulated site
Coordinating mechanical packages including HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, pipework and general mechanical installation
Supporting planning, progress reporting and engineering reviews
Identifying risks and helping shape mitigation strategies
Managing specialist subcontractors ensuring quality, safety and programme targets are met
Maintaining strong communication with the project team and customer representatives
Ensuring engineering solutions meet specification, technical standards and commercial objectives
They Are Looking For:
British due to nuclear regulatory requirements
Able to meet BPSS clearance standards
Strong background in mechanical building services
Experience in regulated environments such as nuclear, defence or energy is ideal
Apprentice‑trained or vocational background valued
HNC, HND or Degree or QBE considered
Confident leading engineering teams on live construction sites
Comfortable coordinating supervisors and managing daily work fronts
Working Pattern:
Monday to Friday
Early start on Monday
Early finish on Friday around lunchtime
