Senior Mechanical Design Engineer \n\nManchester \n\n£50,000 - 60,000 (DOE) + Company car / £5,200 car allowance\n\nHybrid working pattern \n\nBrief\n\nSenior Mechanical Design Engineer is needed for a large facilities management organisation based in Manchester who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Mechanical Design Engineer that takes pride in their work with an in-depth knowledge of mechanical system designs across all RIBA stages, knowledge of decarbonisation solutions and experience with integration of low-carbon energy solutions, such as heat pumps, HVAC and heat recovery systems.\n\nThe successful candidate would need to be competent with the use of and AutoCAD and energy modelling software. Previous experience working across full RIBA stages across multidisciplinary project teams would be a plus!\n\nBenefits\n\n25 days annual leave (+ public holidays)\nCompany car/ £5,200 car allowance\nLife Cover equivalent to 1.5 times annual salary\nEmployee discount shopping schemes for major brands and retailers\nGym membership discounts \nCycle to work scheme \nHoliday purchase scheme\n2 corporate social responsibility days per year\nBroad range of learning opportunities, such as professional qualifications, collective/individual training, and personalized support programs\nAttractive Employee Referral Rewards Scheme\nAccess to our growing employee networks\n24/7 Employee Assistance Program and access to mental wellbeing app \n\nWhat the role entails:\n\nMechanical Design & Engineering\n\nStrong technical grounding in mechanical building services design to integrate low-carbon energy solutions, such as heat pumps, heat recovery systems, high-efficiency HVAC, thermal storage, and demand-led controls for sustainable retrofit in commercial, public-sector, and mixed-use buildings. \nProven experience in heat pump design and integration, including hybrid systems and low-temperature heating solutions.\nAbility to integrate mechanical systems with electrical infrastructure and low-carbon technologies for retrofit and new-build projects.\nSound understanding of electrical building services to enable effective coordination.\nCompetent in detailed design from RIBA Stage 2 to 5, including heating and cooling load calculations, ancillary equipment sizing and selection, ductwork and pipework sizing, schematics, schedules, DSEAR assessments, and technical reports.

\nParticipating in and contributing to HAZOP and LOPA discussions/ meetings.\nExperience with heat networks and utilities, from feasibility to applications and connection design.\nProficient in AutoCAD and good working knowledge of BIM workflows (Revit desirable).\nSupport energy modelling and system performance simulations using IES, Energy Pro, and other tools.\nAbility to lead mechanical design packages on multi-disciplinary projects.\nAbility to check, QA, and sign off mechanical designs in accordance with CIBSE Guides, BS EN standards, UK Building Regulations (Part L, Part F, Part G), and relevant industry codes. \n\nDesign Management & Team Development\n\nUndertake design, coordination, and management, integrating mechanical and energy systems for seamless project execution.\nProduce and develop technical reports, drawings, and specifications.\nComfortable leading client and contractor discussions, including technical presentations.\nExperienced in Design & Build and Traditional procurement routes.\nAble to mentor junior engineers and enhance team capability.\nStrong organisational skills, able to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.\nCommercial awareness to support bids, scopes of work, and fee proposals.\nAssist in identifying design risks and contribute to risk mitigation, manage the risk registers. \n\nProject and Risk Support\n\nManage designs and support end-to-end project lifecycle delivery, helping to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.\nConduct design reviews, ensuring design solutions meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.

\n\nWhat experience you need to be the successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:\n\nExperience in design and design management, risk assessment, and project delivery of sustainable retrofit, low-carbon technologies, and energy efficiency projects.\nProficiency in design-, energy modelling- and simulation software such as IES, Energy Pro, PVsol, Termis, NEMO, and Netsim.\nExperience working across full RIBA stages on multidisciplinary teams.\nExperience in public sector or funding-driven decarbonisation projects such as PSDS and WH/ SHDF. \n\nThis really is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to progress their career.
