Salary: £46,743 Per Annum

Enabling data driven insights, this role will progress strategic analyses looking for trends and patterns in these data and providing the evidence base which helps to inform BBSRCs strategic planning and decision making. Spanning the full remit of BBSRC science, you will work collaboratively with colleagues across BBSRC and the wider UKRI. With a diverse and varied workload, this role reports to the Associate Director, Evidence and Evaluation, within the Strategy Planning, Evidence and Engagement Domain.

In your analysis you will make use of a range of data analytics approaches to enable insightful analysis. Approaches currently used within the team span text analysis (text mining, searching, clustering), network analysis (to explore collaborations and interactions), research classification, and a range of data visualisation approaches to support the dissemination of analyses to our key stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities:

Responding to requests for information on BBSRC research investments, including Parliamentary questions, Ministerial briefing and Freedom of Information requests.

Leading the management BBSRCs research investments data within UKRI and BBSRC systems. Ensure completeness and data accuracy of BBSRC investments data across these systems liaising with others as appropriate to manage database developments. Manage the systems interfaces to link through to various BBSRC analysis tools for discipline facing strategic portfolio analysis and reporting.

Leading the development of various corporate analyses relating to BBSRC investments and outputs data (e.g. by Institution, region or research topic) ensuring that source datasets are produced accurately and ensuring analyses are fit for purpose and aligned to business need. Supporting the exploration of emerging tools and approaches for the analysis of BBSRC research investments and outputs data which measurably enhance BBSRCs analytical capability. Sharing and promoting analytics tools and best practice across the office and wider UKRI to embed data literacy across the organisation, as well as inspire new analyses and ways of visualising data, maximising the impact of presented evidence.

Carrying out strategic analyses of the UKRI-BBSRC research portfolio, working closely with colleagues across the organisation to produce corporate analyses that are fit for purpose, providing a solid evidence base to inform top-level decision-making bodies.

The role also has some line management responsibility (currently 1 post), BBSRC representation and deputising for colleagues within the Evidence and Evaluation Team as required.

Person Specification

Shortlisting (S) and Interview (I) criteria:

Essential

Scientific literacy with an interest in the biosciences or related subject (S&I)

Experience of data management. Good data analysis skills, able to work efficiently, accurately and in an organised and reproducible manner (S&I)

Effective communication skills, including the ability to present data clearly and concisely with thought for the needs of your audience (S&I)

Effective team working and interpersonal skills: able to build relationships and work with colleagues to deliver results (S&I)

An ability to plan and prioritise your work, manage activities and meet deadlines (S&I)

IT literate with extensive experience of the Microsoft Office Suite, an advanced knowledge of Excel and the use of R or Python. (S&I)

Ability to apply critical thinking skills to develop and implement creative solutions to complex problems (I).

Genuine interests in the aims and objectives of UKRI-BBSRC. (S&I)
