Senior Litigation Solicitor / Large Loss, Belfast, Suit 4 years + PQE Overview A well-established insurance litigation team in Belfast is seeking a Senior Solicitor to assist with and manage large-loss High Court claims (including catastrophic injury cases). You will support the Lead Lawyer on complex casualty and motor matters while handling your own claim cases in the £100?k£250?k range, working with sophisticated insurer clients and analyzing detailed medical and quantum evidence. Key Responsibilities Support the Lead Lawyer in managing complex, high value cases, including brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, and fatal injury claims. Manage a personal caseload of high-value injury claims (£100?k£250?k). Engage directly with insurer clients: respond to enquiries and provide regular case updates. Perform forensic analysis of quantum evidence: prepare chronologies, review medical documentation, identify inconsistencies. Apply knowledge of injury symptomatology to flag key issues in medical records and guide expert instructions. Conduct critical liability assessment and identify evidentiary gaps. Draft concise technical advice covering indemnity, liability, quantum, causation, and strategic claim resolution for review by the Lead Lawyer. Proactively plan and implement next steps, coordinating with Lead Lawyer as required. Interview witnesses; prepare statements, pleadings, and applications. Instruct counsel; attend conferences, JSMs, mediations (remote and in-person). Represent the team in court proceedings, settlement conferences, and hearings as needed. Delegate tasks to Paralegals or Legal Assistants, mentoring and guiding their professional development. Maintain accurate, up to date case management records and performance data. Ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory standards (e.g., LSNI rules). Working Hours & Location Hours: 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 09:0017:00 with 1-hour unpaid lunch. Location: Belfast office (hybrid working options available after probation). Essential Experience & Skills Qualified solicitor or equivalent legal litigation experience. Strong working knowledge of indemnity, liability, quantum, and litigation process. Demonstrable experience with complex medical issues (preferred). Excellent analytical skills with forensic attention to detail. Confident telephone advocacy and client engagement. Excellent written and verbal communication tailored to senior insurer stakeholders. Familiarity with litigation procedure, case law and Court Practice Rules. Ability to plan and prioritise workload, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure. Strong teamwork, delegation, and client-care skills. Proactive, adaptable, calm under pressure, and keen to take on new challenges. Proficient in standard legal IT tools (Word, Excel, Office suite). Desirable Skills & Experience Experience in catastrophic motor or casualty injury litigation. Advocacy experience in remote or in-person hearings. Exposure to business development or initiatives boosting the teams external profile.
