Our client is a fast-growing, private equity-backed wealth management platform operating in the UK retail financial services market. Now a profitable scale-up with a strong product roadmap, the company combines commercial ambition with a collaborative, low-ego culture. The Legal team is well-regarded, embedded within the business and closely involved in product strategy and regulatory decision-making. The Role This Senior Legal Counsel (Product / Regulatory) position sits within a growing legal team of approximately seven lawyers, split between Corporate and Commercial/Product/Regulatory. Reporting to the Head of Legal (Commercial & Product), you will act as a key strategic adviser to Product, Compliance and Commercial teams. This is a newly created role designed to deepen in-house regulatory expertise and reduce reliance on external counsel. You will support the development and rollout of new products and features from initial concept through to launch, ensuring regulatory compliance while enabling commercial innovation. Key Responsibilities
Act as a strategic legal adviser to Product teams on new products, features and promotions. Advise on financial services regulation, including FCA Handbook requirements (BCOBS, Consumer Duty, CASS) and FSMA, including Financial Promotions. Identify and mitigate product, regulatory and privacy risks. Develop scalable governance processes and product policies. Draft and update customer-facing terms and conditions. Support broader commercial matters, including supplier and banking partner agreements. Assist Compliance with regulatory queries and FCA engagement.Deliver training to business stakeholders and monitor regulatory developments.
About You
6+ years’ PQE Strong financial services regulatory experience, ideally in retail/consumer financial products. Excellent knowledge of FCA requirements and wider consumer protection frameworks. Comfortable operating independently in a product-facing environment. Commercial, pragmatic and solutions-focused. Confident managing senior stakeholders across Product and Compliance. Experience drafting customer-facing terms and broader commercial agreements. Private practice background helpful but not essential.
