The role
As a Key Account Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of flexible (flex) I&C energy accounts, acting as a strategic partner to clients with complex consumption and procurement requirements.
This role sits at the centre of flexible energy trading and risk management, working closely with internal trading desks to structure, execute, and optimise purchasing strategies over time.
You will move beyond traditional account management, becoming a trusted advisor on market timing, hedging strategies, and contract optimisation.
What you’ll be doing
- Manage and develop a portfolio of high-value flex energy accounts (50GWh+ consumption)
- Design and implement flexible procurement strategies, aligned to client risk appetite
- Work closely with trading teams to execute hedging strategies and optimise market entry points
- Lead complex, multi-layered tenders and contract negotiations for flex supply agreements
- Provide clients with market insight, pricing trends, and risk management guidance
- Actively manage contracts post-sale, identifying opportunities to optimise positions and improve outcomes
- Drive retention and growth through deep account penetration and strategic advisory
- Identify upsell opportunities across flex products, services, and structuring solutions
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver a seamless and high-touch client experience
What we’re looking for
This role requires a blend of commercial acumen, energy market expertise, and strategic thinking, with a strong understanding of how flexible procurement works in practice.
Essential skills
- Strong commercial mindset with experience in structured or complex deal environments
- Deep understanding of flexible energy products and wholesale market dynamics
- Ability to communicate complex trading and risk concepts in a clear, client-focused way
- Confident influencing senior stakeholders and procurement decision-makers
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail
- Proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving market environment
- Strong collaboration skills across trading, pricing, and commercial teams
Experience required
- Proven experience in Key Account Management or commercial roles within the UK I&C energy market
- Strong track record working with flexible supply contracts and procurement strategies
- Experience partnering with trading desks or pricing teams
- Demonstrated success in managing complex, high-value energy accounts
- Track record of driving growth through strategic account development and optimisation
