PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. Plus additional Channel Islands weighting of £5,441/annum.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This is a crucial role in which you'll lead our general news coverage across the Bailiwick of Guernsey helping audiences make sense of the events and issues shaping their communities. Your editorial judgement, curiosity and integrity will help ensure our journalism remains trusted, relevant, and impactful.
You'll look beyond the day-to-day headlines to generate original journalism, identify emerging stories, and provide deeper context and analysis. The primary editorial focus includes responding to breaking news while also setting the news agenda with distinctive public interest reporting and exclusives. As part of the wider Channel Island team, you will contribute to a broad range of multi-platform output and support regional storytelling.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Working as a multi-platform reporter delivering for tv, radio, online and socials
- Regularly doing live reporting on both TV and Radio
- Taking the lead on sourcing and standing up stories and being proactive over editorial and legal issues
- Working to tight deadlines whilst maintaining high standards of accuracy and exercising strong editorial judgement and understanding of media law
- Writing a range of different styles of online articles including more complex features and providing analysis
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- A significant track record in journalism, demonstrating strong editorial judgement under pressure.
- You'll bring a passion for powerful audio storytelling, with a strong flair for writing engaging scripts and online articles that reflect what matters to local audiences.
- You'll confidently self-shoot and edit video, producing high-quality visual content.
- Working to tight deadlines, you'll uphold the highest editorial standards, producing accurate, impartial, and trusted journalism.
- Strong relationship building skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Experience mentoring more junior colleagues.
- An understanding of life in Guernsey and its unique political landscape.
- Familiarity with collaborating across multiple teams.
- Ability to contribute to wider content beyond core programmes.
- Experience working in fast paced, high responsibility editorial environments.
- Additional multimedia or digital journalism skills.
