Senior Software Engineer - Java | Cloud Security Location: Belfast (Hybrid) Employment Type: Full-time Compensation: Competitive + Benefits The Opportunity We're hiring a Senior Java Engineer to join a fast-moving team building modern cloud security infrastructure. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on shipping scalable, secure software in high-trust, high-impact environments. You'll work with deeply technical peers across backend, DevOps, and cloud architecture to design systems that defend cloud infrastructure in real-time. You'll contribute to projects at the intersection of security, observability, and cloud-native platforms-engineering software that helps identify vulnerabilities, surface risks, and defend workloads using runtime signals. What You'll Be Doing Designing and building performant Java-based services for a cloud-first platform Collaborating on runtime protection features, vulnerability scanning, and policy enforcement logic Working closely with cloud infrastructure teams on distributed, event-driven system design Improving CI/CD pipelines, containerisation workflows, and infrastructure-as-code practices Participating in design reviews, technical planning, and architectural decision-making Ensuring software is testable, observable, and secure by default Tech Stack You'll Use Languages: Java (core), with occasional Golang or Kotlin Cloud: AWS-native tooling and services Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform Data & Messaging: PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ Tooling: GitHub Actions, Helm, Prometheus, Grafana What You'll Bring 4+ years of experience building robust Java applications in production environments Strong understanding of modern software delivery: CI/CD, containers, infrastructure as code Experience with RESTful APIs, event streaming, and asynchronous messaging systems Familiarity with secure coding practices and cloud security principles Comfort working in Agile teams with shared ownership and open feedback culture Curiosity about cloud internals, runtime introspection (eBPF), or system observability is a bonus Desirable (Not Essential) Exposure to Kubernetes internals, runtime security, or workload isolation Experience building developer tooling, policy engines, or scanning utilities Contributions to open source or experience in a start-up or early-stage product environment Why This Role?
