Senior Housing Litigation Lawyer

I am working with a London Borough who is seeking an experienced Senior Housing Litigation Lawyer to join their Legal Services team on a long‑term basis. This is a high‑impact role supporting the council’s housing litigation function, working closely with senior legal colleagues and providing oversight to junior officers.

Role Overview

You will handle a busy and varied caseload of housing litigation matters, providing high‑quality legal advice and representation to the council. The role also includes supervisory oversight of case litigation officers and non‑qualified staff, ensuring effective case progression and maintaining professional standards across the team.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage a substantial caseload of housing litigation matters, including:

* Housing disrepair claims

* Possession proceedings

* Judicial Reviews (including homelessness‑related JRs)

* Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders.

* Represent the council in court and at hearings as required.

* Offer supervisory oversight to case litigation officers and junior/non‑qualified staff

* Support the wider litigation team, working collaboratively with another Housing Litigation Lawyer and approximately three case litigation officers.

* Ensure all work complies with statutory requirements, council policies, and best practice standards.

* Contribute to efficient case management and continuous improvement within the service.

Skills & Experience Required

* Strong experience in housing litigation, ideally within local government or a similar public‑sector environment.

* Confident handling high‑volume, “bread and butter” housing litigation work.

* Experience providing oversight or supervisory support to junior or non‑qualified staff (formal line management not required).

* Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high‑quality work under pressure.

* Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style
