Senior Health & Safety Advisor\n Location: (with travel)\n Salary: circa £50,000\n Contract: Full-time, permanent\n Reporting to: Head of Health & Safety\nAbout the role\nWe’re looking for an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our Health & Safety team and play a key role in shaping and delivering our health and safety strategy.\nAs a senior technical specialist, you’ll provide expert advice across the organisation, lead on key programmes of work, and support continuous improvement in performance and compliance. You’ll operate with a high level of autonomy and act as an escalation point for complex or high‑risk matters, as well as deputising for the Head of Health & Safety when required.\nThis is a great opportunity for an experienced H&S professional who enjoys influence, leadership and driving positive change across a multi-site organisation.\nKey responsibilities\nIn this role, you will:\nProvide expert legal and technical health and safety advice on complex and high‑risk issues\nAct as a senior escalation point and mentor for Health & Safety Advisors\nLead specific specialist areas such as fire safety, audit programmes, risk frameworks, contractor safety or systems\nSupport the development, review and embedding of health and safety policies, procedures and management systems\nLead the health and safety audit programme, including planning, quality assurance, reporting and follow‑up\nCarry out audits and inspections of higher‑risk or complex services\nLead or support investigations into serious incidents, including RIDDOR‑reportable events\nAnalyse data and trends to identify risks, inform decision‑making and drive improvement\nContribute to governance reporting, risk logs, thematic reviews and Health & Safety Committee papers\nSupport training, campaigns and initiatives that promote a positive safety culture\nBuild strong relationships with operational leaders to ensure consistent and effective implementation of health and safety arrangementsAbout you\nWe’re looking for someone with strong technical expertise, confidence and the ability to influence at all levels.\nEssential requirements:\n\nNEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent), or working towards within an agreed timeframe\nNEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate (or equivalent)\nChartered or Certified IOSH membership (or working towards)\nSignificant experience in a health & safety role within a multi-site organisation\nStrong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation\nProven experience of audits, inspections, incident investigation and compliance monitoring\nAbility to work autonomously, manage priorities and exercise sound professional judgement\nExcellent communication, influencing and written reporting skillsDesirable:\n\nLead Auditor qualification (e.g. ISO 45001)\nSpecialist qualifications in fire safety, CDM or risk management\nExperience within health and social care or another regulated environment\nExperience leading programmes of work or mentoring othersAdditional information\n\nFull UK driving licence required\nAbility to travel nationally with occasional overnight staysWhy join us?\nYou’ll be part of a supportive and professional Health & Safety team, with the opportunity to make a real impact, shape strategy and develop your career in a senior technical role
