Job Advert: Senior Estimator – Civil Engineering and Groundworks\n\nLocation\n\nAston, Birmingham (with projects across London and the South East, flexible working options)\n\nWorking Hours\n\n07:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday\n\nJob Type\n\nFull-time\n\nRole Overview\n\nThe Senior Estimator will lead the preparation and production of competitive tenders for civil engineering and groundworks projects. The role requires analytical pricing from first principles, risk and opportunity evaluation, stakeholder collaboration, and contribution to tender strategy and post-tender activities.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nReview, prioritise, and manage new tender opportunities\n\nAnalyse tender documentation, including drawings, specifications, and site investigations\n\nLiaise with commercial, production, planning, and procurement teams\n\nProduce accurate take-offs and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) where required\n\nObtain, collate, and assess subcontractor and supplier quotations\n\nPrice schedules analytically and perform bid comparisons using estimating software\n\nIdentify risks and opportunities, including value engineering\n\nReview client programmes for alignment with outputs, methodology, and sequencing\n\nLead and present tender adjudications\n\nSubmit detailed tenders including assumptions and clarifications\n\nAttend client meetings (pre, mid, post tender) as required\n\nPrepare and deliver tender information for handover to contract teams\n\nMaintain and develop customer relationships\n\nCollect and analyse post-tender feedback\n\nSupport the development of trainee estimators\n\nMaintain cost databases and historical data for benchmarking\n\nProvide accurate cost reports and advice to senior management\n\nQualifications & Experience\n\nEssential:\n\nMinimum 5 years’ experience in estimating or a similar role\n\nKnowledge of contract forms (JCT, NEC3/4)\n\nStrong commercial and analytical skills\n\nUnderstanding of risks and opportunities\n\nPractical knowledge of measurement standards (SMM7, CESMM, Highway MOM, NRM)\n\nRelevant higher-level qualification in Construction or Civil Engineering\n\nDesirable:\n\nCivil Engineering experience\n\nExperience with ConQuest estimating software\n\nWorking towards professional body membership (RICS, ICE, CIOB)\n\nKey Skills\n\nAccuracy and attention to detail\n\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively\n\nResilience under tight deadlines\n\nStrong client relationship management\n\nExperience in commercial groundworks, civil engineering, and highways infrastructure tenders\n\nExcellent communication skills at all levels\n\nIT literate (Microsoft Word, Excel; ConQuest desirable)\n\nBenefits\n\nCompetitive salary and holiday entitlement, increasing with service\n\nAdditional holiday on birthday and flexibility to extend annual leave\n\nHealth and medical insurance\n\nSupport for professional development and ongoing training\n\nDeath in service cover\n\nCompany car or allowance\n\nFree on-site parking\n\nEmployee referral scheme\n\nCompany events and recognition programs
