Job Description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electronics Systems Engineer – Design Authority to join a specialist engineering team responsible for a safety-critical electronics subsystem supporting complex weapon system programmes.
This role performs the duties of the Design Authority for a critical launch-related electronics system and reports into senior engineering leadership, holding responsibility for technical integrity, certification and in-service support.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as technical Design Authority for a complex electronics-based system within a regulated, safety-critical environment
Maintain ownership of system architecture, ensuring design integrity across hardware, software, mechanical and interface elements
Lead technical decision-making and design assurance activities across multidisciplinary engineering teams
Manage technical risk, issues, opportunities and obsolescence throughout the product lifecycle
Ensure requirements are correctly flowed down, maintained and verified at system, subsystem and component level
Review and approve design changes, technical justifications and certification evidence
Validate verification and test strategies to support system acceptance and certification
Provide in-service technical support to maintain system reliability, safety and availability
Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across systems, software, electronics, safety, cyber and manufacturing
The ideal candidate would have:
Experience operating at system or subsystem level on complex electronics or embedded systems
Broad technical understanding of electronics systems incorporating both hardware and software
Exposure to safety-critical or highly regulated engineering environments
Experience influencing or leading technical design decisions
Strong stakeholder engagement skills across multidisciplinary teams
An interest in progressing into, or further developing, Design Authority responsibility
The ideal candidate must have:
Proven experience as an Electronics Systems Engineer, Systems Engineer or similar
Understanding of requirements engineering, traceability and verification principles
Ability to review and approve verification evidence and test procedures
Experience managing technical risk and ensuring compliance with defined engineering processes
Eligibility to work within a security-cleared defence environment
