Senior Electrical Engineer (PLC)

A global engineering leader is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong experience in PLC control systems to join their innovative team. You’ll contribute to a range of cutting-edge projects spanning multiple fields for both defence and commercial applications.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll design and support control systems that operate in some of the world’s most demanding environments.

Key responsibilities:

Design control systems using programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and industrial networks (e.g. Profibus, CANbus, Ethernet). Support new product development and field upgrades with robust, safety-critical engineering solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including sales, production, and supply chain — to deliver technical excellence. Create and review engineering documentation: specifications, test procedures, assembly instructions, and certifications. Act as a technical authority on documentation and design standards, and mentor junior team members where needed.

What we’re looking for:

Proven experience in electrical and electronics design, including HV/LV systems and power distribution. Skilled in Structured Text (ST) and other IEC (phone number removed) programming , preferably within CODESYS. Knowledge of EMC compliance, IEC 61508, and safety-critical systems. A methodical engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and takes full ownership of their work.

Qualifications & experience:

Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or equivalent practical experience). Experience designing control systems using PLCs and industrial automation networks. Proficiency with engineering software tools and electrical CAD packages. Experience with product lifecycle management systems (PLM) is an advantage. Background in battery systems up to 150 kWh and DC system design is a bonus.

This role is based near Glasgow and may involve occasional travel based on project requirements.
