Job Description
We are working with a large multinational civil engineering company that is urgently seeking an experienced Chartered Senior/Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join their Building Design Practice. This role involves supporting project delivery across multiple sectors, including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, transportation, defence, and energy. This role is inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
Understand project briefs and requirements.
Design and specify all Electrical Building Services systems – power, earthing, lighting, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, lightning protection, etc.
Perform detailed calculations using industry-standard tools (Excel, Amtech, Dialux/Relux, in-house tools).
Prepare technical specifications using NBS.
Collaborate with international Global Technology Centres and BIM teams using Autodesk Revit.
Conduct site surveys, inspections, and monitor site works.
Write reports and technical notes; maintain complete records to company standards.
Manage own workload, update forward plans, and ensure delivery within time allocations and budgets.
Assist in the technical development of junior staff.
Requirements:
Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Building Services Engineering or a related field.
Chartered Engineer status with CIBSE or IET .
Proficient with Amtech/Prodesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, Microsoft packages; HV tools advantageous.
Familiarity with energy reduction, decarbonisation, and building physics principles.
Competence in measurement, verification, commissioning, and post-installation performance evaluation.
Experience in a design consultancy or contractor design environment.
Strong knowledge of technical standards, report writing, and client presentations.
Ability to take initiative, make decisions, and manage project deliverables.
