Job Description
An established and respected environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join its friendly and growing team in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist looking to take the next step in their career, leading projects and mentoring junior staff while contributing to a diverse range of ecological work across the UK. The successful candidate will be involved in managing and delivering ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation strategies for a wide range of development and conservation projects.\n\nThey will work closely with clients, planning authorities, and multidisciplinary teams to provide expert ecological advice and ensure high-quality outcomes.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nLead ecological field surveys and assessments (including Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species work).\n\nPrepare and review technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments and mitigation strategies.\n\nProvide project management support and liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders.\n\nMentor and support junior ecologists in their professional development.\n\nContribute to the continued growth and success of the ecology team.\n\nEssential Skills and Experience:\n\nA degree in ecology or a related environmental discipline.\n\nFull membership (or working towards) of CIEEM.\n\nStrong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and ecological best practice.\n\nProven experience in project management and client liaison.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\n\nA full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for site work.\n\nBenefits include:\n\nCompetitive salary, commensurate with experience.\n\nFlexible and hybrid working arrangements.\n\nSupport for continued professional development, including training and conference attendance.\n\nGenerous holiday allowance plus additional days for long service.\n\nCompany pension scheme and life assurance.\n\nA supportive, collaborative team environment with regular social events.\n\nThis is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established consultancy with a reputation for technical excellence, where your contribution will make a real difference to both people and the environment.\n\nInterested in this opportunity?
