Job Description

Location: England – West Midlands\nWe are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to support our client in delivering 400kV high-voltage substation design projects, playing a key role in shaping the future of the UK’s energy infrastructure.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\n * Design substations in line with client requirements, budgets, and project timelines\n * Support tender submissions, contract documentation, and preparation of technical drawings\n * Collaborate closely with internal teams and clients to ensure efficient project delivery\n * Undertake regular site visits and maintain strong coordination with operations teams\n * Mentor and support junior engineers and CAD technicians\n * Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives\n * Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards (OHSAS 18001, ISO9001, ISO14001)\n * Communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders at all levels\nWhat You’ll Bring\n * Degree or HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering\n * Minimum 5 years’ experience in power transmission and substation design\n * Strong knowledge of Grid standards, British Standards, and UK design regulations\n * Proficiency in 2D CAD software (Autodesk )\n * Ability to quickly adapt to new engineering tools and systems\n * Experience with NGET Stage 4.4 design and earthing systems up to 400kV\n * Understanding of related disciplines including overhead lines, civil design, protection & control, and HV cables\nDesirable\n * MSc or Chartered Engineer status\n * Expertise in CDEGS, AutoCAD, and power system analysis tools
