Senior Data Scientist (Alt Data & Research) | 12m FTC

New Today

A top‑tier global alternative investment manager is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to work closely with front‑office investment teams, applying alternative and traditional data to research and alpha generation across a multi‑asset platform, with a macro tilt.

This role sits within a central Data & AI function and partners directly with PMs and researchers. It goes beyond a traditional SDA profile, combining hands‑on data science with strong front‑office engagement and a focus on scalable data onboarding and evaluation - improving the existing platform.

The Role

You will work end‑to‑end across the data discovery, onboarding, evaluation, insight lifecycle. PMs expect this person to understand their investment processes and proactively bring ideas and use cases, not just react to requests. You will have a data sourcing team and engineering team to lean on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with PMs and research teams to identify data opportunities and develop investment‑relevant use cases.
  • Acquire, clean, and analyse large, messy and unstructured datasets, with a strong emphasis on alternative data and time‑series analysis.
  • Conduct exploratory analysis, statistical testing, and KPI research to generate actionable insights for front‑office teams.
  • Contribute to the design of scalable data onboarding and evaluation workflows, working alongside engineering teams who execute most core builds.
  • Build proof‑of‑concept analyses and AI‑enabled tools to accelerate research and data adoption across the business.

Requirements

  • 3-8 years' experience in a Data Science or investment‑facing research environment, ideally with exposure to alternative data or SDA‑type work.
  • Strong foundations in data wrangling, time‑series analysis, Python, and SQL within a modern data science stack.
  • Experience working closely with investment stakeholders (buy‑side preferred; investment‑facing sell‑side considered).
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical work to PMs and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong interest in using AI tools as part of the day‑to‑day workflow (debugging, accelerating delivery, improving output quality).

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting multiple PM or quant research teams.
  • Exposure to platform or workflow design around data onboarding and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, web‑scraping, or lightweight pipeline development (tooling is flexible).
