Senior Court Practice Lead (Youth Justice Service)Local Authority | North LondonA large local authority in North London is seeking an experienced Senior Court Practice Lead to join its Youth Justice Service on an ongoing interim basis.This is a senior practice role within a statutory Youth Justice setting, providing leadership, quality assurance and court-facing expertise to ensure high-quality, child-centred outcomes for young people.Assignment DetailsContract Length: 11 months (ongoing assignment)Pay Rate: £31.28 per hour (Umbrella)Hours: 35 hours per weekWorking Pattern: Hybrid - 2 to 3 days per week in the officeOffice Location: Civic Centre, North London (EN1)The RoleReporting into the Youth Justice Service leadership team, the Senior Court Practice Lead will provide professional leadership across court-related practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, proportionate and child-focused youth justice interventions.The post holder will act as a senior practice lead for a defined area of work, holding a small caseload where required and co-working complex cases alongside direct reports. The role will also champion best practice across the service and contribute to continuous improvement through close collaboration with Quality Assurance and Practice Leads.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide a proactive, high-quality service to Magistrates' and Crown Courts on behalf of the Youth Justice ServiceLead and support court practice, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and youth justice legislationLiaise effectively with Magistrates, Clerks, CPS, Defence Solicitors, Court Services and partner agenciesEnsure young people and their families are fully supported through court processes and understand outcomes and sentencing decisionsPromote proportionate, fair and child-centred sentencing outcomesChampion best practice across the service and support practice development and service improvementHold or co-work a small number of complex cases where requiredSupport and mentor practitioners, embedding high standards of professional practiceEssential RequirementsSubstantial experience within a Youth Justice Service or court-based youth justice roleLocal authority / council or housing association experience is essentialStrong understanding of youth justice legislation, court procedures and statutory frameworksProven ability to work confidently with courts and multi-agency stakeholdersExperience supporting, mentoring or leading practitioners in complex environments??
