Senior Counsel EMEA – Principal Investments & Merchant Energy Trading Castleton Commodities International (CCI), a leading global commodities merchant specializing in energy trading and infrastructure investment, invites applications for a highly experienced Senior Counsel to join our London office. The role provides critical legal support across a broad range of commercial activities, primarily M&A, structured finance, and physical & financial energy trading transactions. Responsibilities Principal Investments
Advise on acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and broader portfolio management activities across CCI’s power generation and storage investments. Structure, negotiate, and draft key transaction documents and agreements. Advise on dispute resolution when required. Coordinate with internal stakeholders and manage cross‑functional issues across departments. Liaise with external counsel to ensure seamless execution of projects and efficient operation of the business. Advise on project and corporate financing for the asset portfolio.
Trading Advisory
Serve as a key legal advisor to commercial teams on deal structuring, negotiation, risk management, and support on the general operation of the business. Draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts related to physical and financial commodity transactions (e.g., purchase‑sale agreements, asset & infrastructure, and credit‑related agreements). Advise on trade finance, including borrowing bases, bilats, and repos. Collaborate with trading, credit, risk, operations, tax, and compliance teams on issues impacting business operations.

Act as the sole member of the CCI London legal team and serve as key point of contact for all EMEA legal matters, including entity management, governance, regulatory matters, and disputes. Work closely with, and provide legal advice to, other corporate functions in London such as Compliance, Tax, Credit, Finance, Contracts, HR, and Facilities.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years’ post‑qualification experience as an attorney, with significant exposure to the energy industry. Strong track record in M&A and advising on merchant energy businesses. Strategic thinker capable of advising senior executives and partnering with business‑development teams. Exceptional skills in negotiation, drafting, and communication. Highly analytical, commercially minded, and adept at operating in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment. Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality or detail. Effective in a fast‑paced, dynamic, high‑intensity environment, with willingness to work beyond normal hours when required. Qualified to practice law in the UK.
