Senior Construction Manager – Job Description
Location: London
Reports to: Director
Contract Type: Contract
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Oversight
Lead and manage all phases of construction projects, from pre-construction through to final handover
Ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
Team Management
Direct and mentor site-based teams, including junior managers and subcontractors
Foster a collaborative, high-performance working environment
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to all health and safety regulations
Conduct regular site inspections and audits to maintain a safe working environment
Stakeholder Communication
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and internal teams
Maintain clear and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle
Quality Assurance
Implement and monitor quality control procedures
Address issues promptly to uphold construction standards
Risk & Issue Management
Identify risks and potential issues early
Develop and execute mitigation strategies to minimise impact on timelines and budgets
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare and present regular project reports (progress, financials, compliance)
Ensure all project records are accurate and up to date
Procurement & Contract Management
Oversee procurement of materials and subcontractors
Manage contracts and ensure all terms and conditions are met
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
Experience
Minimum 15 years’ experience in construction management
At least 5 years in a senior role
Proven track record delivering complex projects
Certifications
SMSTS
CSCS (Black/Gold)
First Aid
PMP or equivalent (desirable)
Technical Skills
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore)
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge
Solid understanding of UK building regulations
Knowledge of construction methodologies and contract law
