Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer to support commissioning activities on rail infrastructure works at Birmingham New Street Station. The role will involve overseeing the testing, commissioning, and handover of electrical and mechanical systems within a live operational rail environment, ensuring compliance with rail standards, safety procedures, and project requirements. \nThe successful candidate will coordinate commissioning activities, manage commissioning documentation, and provide technical leadership to commissioning teams and subcontractors.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead and manage commissioning activities across electrical and mechanical systems within the station environment.\n\nDevelop and review commissioning plans, test procedures, and method statements.\n\nCoordinate commissioning schedules with construction teams, subcontractors, and project management.\n\nSupervise commissioning engineers and technicians on site.\n\nEnsure all commissioning activities comply with Network Rail standards, safety procedures, and project specifications.\n\nWitness and verify testing of systems including: \n\nPower distribution systems\n\nLighting and emergency lighting\n\nFire detection and alarm systems\n\nBuilding management systems (BMS)\n\nStation infrastructure systems\n\nManage the preparation and completion of commissioning documentation and handover packs.\n\nLiaise with stakeholders including contractors, project managers, and client representatives.\n\nIdentify and resolve commissioning issues to ensure smooth project delivery.\n\nSupport system integration and functional testing prior to handover.\n\nEnsure compliance with health and safety requirements in a live rail environment.\n\nEssential Requirements\n\nDegree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.\n\nExtensive experience in commissioning within rail, infrastructure, or major construction projects.\n\nExperience commissioning electrical systems within live operational environments.\n\nStrong understanding of testing, commissioning procedures, and documentation processes.\n\nAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.\n\nStrong leadership and coordination skills.\n\nSite-based role at Birmingham New Street Station within a live rail environment.\n\nWork may involve night shifts, weekend work, and possessions in line with rail operational requirements.\n\nCoordination with multiple contractors and project stakeholders
