Senior Business Development Manager | South Wales & South West England
Specialist temporary power, hybrid and battery-supported solutions business
This is a senior commercial role for someone who wants to build a region with real backing behind it.
Our client
A specialist temporary power business supplying generator rental and hybrid-supported solutions into construction, infrastructure, emergency response, FM, TV and film, and wider industrial environments where reliability and uptime are non-negotiable.
Over the past 18 months, the business has invested over £2.5 million in new fleet, including modern generator sets, upgraded temporary distribution, and the introduction of hybrid-supported and battery energy storage solutions. This investment has been made deliberately, ahead of demand, to support a strategic shift away from event-heavy work and toward stable, rental-led revenue.
With current turnover at approximately £8 million and a clear plan to scale toward £17 million, the business is now strengthening its senior commercial function to match its operational ambition.
South Wales and the South West are a strategic priority within that growth plan.
The role
You will take full ownership of the commercial development of the region.
This is not a transactional sales role and not a territory to simply manage. You will be responsible for building sustainable rental income by securing the right customers and developing long-term trading relationships.
Customer environments include FM providers, rail, TV and film, electrical contractors, and project-led operations where engineered power solutions are valued over lowest price.
You will build and maintain a structured three to six month pipeline with clear visibility and disciplined forecasting. Leadership relies on this data to inform pricing strategy, capex planning, and fleet investment.
You will specify and position engineered power solutions including generator packages, synchronised sets, temporary distribution layouts, and hybrid or battery-supported solutions where appropriate. Technical specialists support deeper engineering detail, but commercial ownership and credibility sit with you.
Protecting margin is non-negotiable. The business is selective about the work it takes on and expects the same commercial discipline from its senior sales leadership.
Beyond revenue generation, you will provide regional market insight. What customers are asking for. Where hybrid and battery solutions are gaining traction. What future investment makes sense.
What success looks like
• Sustainable, rental-led revenue growth across the region
• A disciplined, accurate pipeline that supports business planning
• Long-term trading relationships rather than one-off hires
• Strong margin protection and commercially sound decision-making
• Insight that shapes wider commercial and investment strategy
Who this suits
You are already operating at a senior level within temporary power or a closely related engineered rental environment.
You are comfortable discussing generators, temporary distribution, synchronisation, and load requirements. Exposure to hybrid or BESS solutions is advantageous but not essential. Full training and support are provided.
You are structured, commercially confident, and selective about the work you pursue. You value ownership, autonomy, and being judged on outcomes rather than activity.
You have built regions, accounts, or verticals over time and value stability and long-term credibility.
Progression
This role has been created with succession in mind.
As the business continues to scale, there is a clear opportunity to progress into a Sales Director or senior commercial leadership role within three to five years. Progression will be driven by regional performance, commercial judgement, and contribution to shaping the wider sales strategy. It is earned, not time-served.
