Job Description
An independent building consultancy is seeking an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) to join its expanding team delivering commercial and residential building surveying services across the South West of England.
This is a senior, client-facing role suited to a surveyor who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial mindset. The position offers a clear pathway toward senior leadership and director-level responsibility for the right individual.
The RoleYou will deliver a wide range of commercial and residential building surveying services, working with a varied client base including developers, investors, landlords, commercial occupiers, and private homeowners.
The role will involve managing instructions from initial enquiry through to final report delivery, providing clear professional advice and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
Undertaking commercial and residential building surveys
Delivering RICS Level 2 and Level 3 residential surveys
Conducting commercial building surveys and defect diagnosis
Providing dilapidations advice and inspections
Managing projects from instruction through to completion
Preparing detailed technical reports and professional advice
Completing measured surveys and producing CAD drawings
Supporting planning and development-related work and feasibility input
Liaising with clients, consultants, and contractors throughout projects
This is a hybrid role, combining site inspections, home working, and collaboration with the wider consultancy team.
Client Engagement & Business DevelopmentYou will play an important role in building long-term client relationships and contributing to the growth of the consultancy.
Responsibilities include:
Developing relationships with commercial and residential clients
Contributing to fee proposals and converting enquiries into instructions
Generating repeat business and new opportunities
Supporting the continued development of commercial and residential surveying services

Skills & ExperienceMRICS Chartered Building Surveyor
Minimum 5 years professional building surveying experience
Proven experience across commercial and residential property
Strong experience delivering commercial building surveys and defect analysis
Experience undertaking RICS Level 2 and Level 3 surveys
Proficiency in CAD and measured surveys
Good understanding of planning and development processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organisation and ability to work independently
This is not a high-volume surveying role. You will have autonomy, influence, and visibility within the business from day one.
You will be trusted to manage your own projects, engage directly with clients, and contribute to the strategic growth of the business. There is genuine scope to help develop specialist service lines and expand both commercial and residential workstreams.
