Senior Bookkeeper – Hybrid (Milton Keynes)

The Role

This is a great opportunity as a Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of a varied client portfolio while supporting and mentoring junior staff. You’ll work closely with clients and play a key role in maintaining high-quality financial processes.

Working pattern: Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm (hybrid: 3 days in the office, 2 from home)

Key Responsibilities

* Managing a portfolio of clients and maintaining strong relationships

* Preparing and reviewing VAT returns

* Performing balance sheet reconciliations (bank, VAT, payroll, CIS, etc.)

* Processing bills, expenses, and supplier payments

* Credit control and day-to-day client communication

* Supporting year-end accounts preparation

* Assisting with software integrations

* Mentoring and developing junior team members

About You

* 4–5+ years’ bookkeeping experience (ideally within an accountancy practice)

* Strong VAT knowledge and experience preparing returns

* Confident managing multiple clients and deadlines

* Proficient in Xero (Sage and QuickBooks experience beneficial)

* Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills

* Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach

* AAT Level 4 (desirable)
