Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist – Main Laboratory Lead

Location: Central London, UK (Fully On-site)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £47,810 – £54,710 per annum (depending on experience)

Advance Histopathology Laboratory Ltd (AHLab) is a UKAS-accredited (ISO 15189) independent laboratory delivering high-quality, consultant-led histopathology services. Based in central London, we provide rapid, reliable diagnostics with a strong focus on clinical excellence and patient care.


The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist to lead our main laboratory operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day laboratory operations (processing, embedding, microtomy, staining)
  • Ensure compliance with UKAS (ISO 15189), CQC, and internal standards
  • Monitor and drive turnaround times and KPIs
  • Supervise, train, and develop staff
  • Lead on quality management, audits, and non-conformances
  • Support validation, verification, and continuous improvement.


Person Specification

Essential:

  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1-year post-specialist experience in a histopathology laboratory
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 15189 / UKAS requirements
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience
  • Ability to work in a high-throughput environment


Desirable:

  • Experience in private or high-volume laboratories
  • Involvement in UKAS inspections/accreditation
  • Experience in service development or workflow optimisation
