Teaching Personnel are currently working on behalf of multiple Mainstreem Secondary Schools within South Birmingham who are looking to appoint SEND Teaching Assistants on short term, long term and permaent basis'.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a big part in setting the foundations of each school you work in. Becoming a SEND TA is an excellent opportunity to make a big difference in a pupil’s education, to build upon your teaching support skills and to gain experience in a wide range of teaching methods, aids, and approaches.
Key Responsibilities in Secondary Schools:
In-Class Support: You will work within mainstream lessons to adapt materials, clarify instructions, and keep students with SEN (e.g., autism, dyslexia, ADHD) focused.
Targeted Interventions: Delivering tailored programs outside the classroom, such as literacy support, social skills training, or numeracy catch-up.
Behavioural and Emotional Support: Implementing regulation plans, assist with anxiety, and use de-escalation strategies, helping pupils manage their emotions and conduct.
Liaison and Recording: Collaborating with SENCOs, teachers, and specialists (e.g., speech therapists) to track progress, update records, and attend review meetings.
1:1 Support & EHCP Delivery: Provide dedicated care to students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), focusing on individual learning and inclusion.
Preparation and Pastoral Care: Prepare specialised learning resources and support student welfare during social times or school trips.
Would a SEND TA be a good career path for you?
A good understanding of the national Key Stage Curriculum.
Knowledge of various teaching methods appropriate for SEND pupils.
A sound understanding of child development and learning.
Demonstrate active listening skills and strong verbal communication skills.
A dedication to establishing positive relationships with pupils and understanding their needs.
The ability to provide individual attention, reassurance and support with learning tasks.
Willingness and ability to adapt in response to changing circumstances.
Monitor pupils’ responses and adapt to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
The confidence to evaluate learning needs and actively seek new teaching methods.
Provide feedback to pupils in a constructive way that reinforces learning.
The ability to handle complex and sensitive issues with empathy and understanding.
An interest in developing your personal and professional progress.
The ability to use a computer competently, including the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
