Teaching Personnel are seeking a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Oldham. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting pupils across primary and secondary age groups within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

About the School

The school provides specialist support for children and young people aged 4–19 with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). It offers a bespoke alternative to mainstream education, placing strong focus on emotional wellbeing, inclusion and preparing pupils for independence and adulthood.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of complex needs, helping them access learning in a way that suits their individual strengths. Working closely with teaching staff, therapists and families, you will contribute to personalised support plans that promote both academic progress and personal development.

You will help foster a calm, structured and engaging learning environment where pupils feel supported to build confidence, social skills and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting pupils with additional needs on a 1:1 basis and within small groups
Adapting learning activities to suit sensory, communication and developmental needs
Using specialist tools such as PECS, AAC, visual schedules and sensory equipment
Supporting positive behaviour strategies and assisting during periods of emotional dysregulation
Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and well-organised classroom environment
Encouraging emotional regulation, independence and positive social interactions
Supporting with personal care when required, including toileting, feeding and mobility
Essential Requirements

A proactive and confident approach to supporting pupils with SEN
Patience, resilience and a genuine passion for working in specialist education
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Willingness to support pupils with personal and physical care
Availability for full-time, long-term work
Desirable

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
