Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant – Chester | TalentBoard

What you’ll be doing as a Specialist SEN TA

In this rewarding role, you’ll work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, which may include:

• Autism and communication differences
• Global developmental delay or learning difficulties
• SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) needs
• Sensory processing challenges
• Limited or non-verbal communication
• Physical or mobility needs

Your responsibilities may involve:

• Providing 1:1 support tailored to each pupil’s learning and care plan
• Assisting small groups during structured tasks, interventions or therapy-based activities
• Using visual supports, communication systems and personalised learning approaches
• Helping pupils regulate emotions using calm, trauma-informed strategies
• Encouraging participation in lessons, routines and social interactions
• Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral teams
• Creating a safe, nurturing and predictable environment where every child feels valued

What we’re looking for

You do not need previous school-based SEN experience to apply. We welcome applicants from:

• Care or residential work
• Mental health or support work
• Nursing
• Youth work or mentoring
• Sports coaching or personal training
• Health and social care

We are seeking individuals who are:

• Patient, empathetic and emotionally resilient
• Confident supporting pupils with communication, sensory or behavioural needs
• Able to work independently and as part of a supportive team
• Reliable, compassionate and committed to helping children achieve their potential
• Keen to take on training and develop specialist SEN skills
• Willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS if not already in place
