Role Overview

As an SEN Teaching Assistant with We Do Social Work, you will support pupils with Special Educational Needs on a one-to-one or small group basis. You will play a vital role in helping children access education, build confidence, and develop both academically and emotionally within a safe and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties

Support pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, both inside and outside the classroom

Assist the class teacher and SENCO in delivering differentiated learning activities

Implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual education or behaviour plans

Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional regulation

Support pupils with social, emotional, and personal development

Monitor and record progress, feeding back to teachers and relevant staff

Support with personal care where required (training provided if applicable)

Ensure safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion are always prioritised

Essential Requirements

Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs

A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Ability to follow guidance from teaching staff and SENCOs

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience working within a primary school setting

SEN-specific training (e.g. ASD, SEMH, behaviour management, Team Teach)

Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent)
