Salary: £100–£120 per day
Job Type: Full-Time, Temporary (Term Time Only)
Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Key Stages: EYFS – KS5 (Specialist SEND Provision)
Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training such a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

About the Role

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex needs across a specialist setting.

You will play a vital role in helping students access learning, develop key life skills, and build confidence. Working on a 1:1 and small group basis, you will support pupils with communication, sensory regulation, and behaviour, ensuring they can engage positively with their environment.

This specialist school in Hertfordshire supports pupils aged 2–19 with severe and complex learning difficulties, including autism and communication needs.

The school provides a nurturing, structured environment with a strong focus on EHCP-led learning, communication, independence, and wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to make a meaningful difference every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with severe SEN

• Support pupils in working towards EHCP outcomes and personalised learning goals

• Use communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, and AAC systems

• Deliver engaging, hands-on, and highly individualised learning activities

• Support sensory needs, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour strategies

• Assist with personal care where required, maintaining dignity and respect

• Promote independence, confidence, and social development

• Work collaboratively with teachers and specialist staff, including SaLT and OT

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

• Experience working with children or young people with severe SEN

• Understanding of educational provision for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and EHCPs

• A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach

• Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and responsive in a dynamic environment

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desirable:

• Experience supporting pupils with autism and complex needs

• Knowledge of Total Communication approaches (e.g. Makaton, PECS, AAC)

• Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualification

• Experience working across multiple age groups (EYFS–Post-16)
