SEN Teaching Assistant Sheffield Location: Sheffield Contract: Full-time, Term-Time Only Salary: GBP90GBP110 per day (depending on experience) Start Date: ASAP or February 2026 About the Role We are currently recruiting a passionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive and well-resourced school in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is committed to supporting children with a range of additional needs and helping them thrive both academically and socially. You will work closely with the SENCO, class teachers, external agencies, and parents to ensure each child receives tailored support that allows them to reach their full potential. Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including:
Autism (ASC/ASD) ADHD Speech, language & communication needs Global developmental delay Social, emotional & mental health challenges
Implement personalised learning strategies and adapt classroom materials to suit individual learning styles. Support children with emotional regulation, behaviour management and confidence-building activities. Assist with sensory, physical or mobility needs where required. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with teachers and parents. Encourage pupil independence and promote positive learning habits. Use a range of evidence-based interventions such as:
PECS / Makaton (desirable) Now and Next boards Sensory circuits Social stories
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to create an encouraging and supportive classroom environment.

Passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs. Patient, resilient and able to build trusting relationships quickly. Calm under pressure and adaptable to changing situations. Experienced working with SEN pupils (school, care, youth work or similar settings). Confident supporting behaviour management using positive strategies. Able to communicate clearly with pupils, staff and parents. Eager to develop your skills through ongoing training and CPD.
