Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception

A welcoming and inclusive primary academy in Romford (RM7) is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support for children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) within the Reception setting. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of early childhood development and a passion for supporting children with additional needs during their formative years.

The early years provision is well-resourced, structured, and supported by experienced class teachers and a proactive SENCo.

Role Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with autism in a Reception classroom

Support communication, interaction, and language development using structured and play-based approaches

Assist with sensory regulation, routines, and transitions throughout the school day

Implement personalised support strategies, visual timetables, and structured learning activities

Support emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour using consistent approaches

Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists)

Monitor and record progress, contributing to observations and review meetings

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Experience supporting children with autism, ideally in EYFS

A calm, patient, and nurturing approach

Knowledge of early years development and inclusive practice

The ability to follow structured support plans and adapt to individual needs

A strong understanding of safeguarding and child-centred care
