In this specialist SEN role, you will support pupils with a range of needs, which may include: Autism (ASC) Communication needs, including non-verbal pupils Physical disabilities or mobility requirements Providing 1:1 support tailored to a child’s individual learning and wellbeing plan. Using visual aids, Makaton, PECS, or other alternative communication methods (training can be provided). Helping pupils engage meaningfully in lessons, routines and personalised learning programmes. Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SENCOs and wider school staff. Ensuring a calm, safe and encouraging environment where every child feels valued and included.
You don’t need school-based SEN experience — what matters most is the right attitude. Confident supporting pupils with behaviour, communication or sensory needs Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and thrive Willing to undertake relevant training Mental health support Youth work or mentoring Personal care or medical needs support Autism, SEMH, PMLD or complex needs environments An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) is required.
