An exciting opportunity has become available for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Alternative Provision setting in Tewkesbury. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may have struggled in mainstream education and is committed to helping them re-engage with learning.
This small and supportive provision works with students aged 11-18 who benefit from a more personalised and structured approach to education. Many pupils have SEMH needs, alongside additional challenges such as autism, communication difficulties and learning barriers. The setting in Tewkesbury focuses heavily on removing barriers to learning and helping students rebuild confidence and develop positive pathways for the future.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant in Tewkesbury, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide both academic and emotional support to students. The classes are small, allowing staff to build strong relationships with pupils and provide highly targeted support.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting students with SEMH, behavioural and additional learning needs
Helping pupils re-engage with learning in a supportive environment
Building trusting relationships with students who may have experienced challenges in education
Assisting the teacher with lesson delivery and classroom activities
Supporting behaviour regulation using calm, consistent and trauma-informed approaches
Encouraging confidence, independence and positive decision making

Experience in the following areas would be particularly beneficial:
Alternative Provision, PRU or SEMH settings
Behaviour mentoring or SEN support roles

Residential care or support work
Sports coaching or mentoring roles
You should:
Be confident supporting students who may present challenging behaviour
Have a calm, empathetic and consistent approach
Be able to build strong relationships with young people
Be adaptable and able to think on your feet
Be passionate about making a positive impact on students' lives
