SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
Could you make a real difference to pupils who need extra support to access school life confidently? Are you looking for meaningful primary SEN experience before moving into teaching, educational psychology, or clinical psychology?
*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant *** September 2026 to July 2027 *** £85 - £101 per day *** ‘Outstanding’ primary school, Ward of Yardley *** 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs
The Role: Support pupils with additional needs through a mixture of 1:1 work and small group intervention across the school day. You will help children access learning, follow routines, stay engaged in class, and build confidence, while working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress. SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children with disabilities and special educational needs, and schools are expected to use a graduated approach to identifying needs, putting support in place, and reviewing impact.
The Candidate: You are calm, observant, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You want practical school-based experience, you can stay patient in a busy primary setting, and you are interested in how strong support helps pupils with additional needs feel included and make progress. This role would suit a graduate who wants relevant SEN experience before progressing into teaching or psychology-related training.
Requirements
Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject. Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication. Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing. Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology. The School: This ‘Outstanding’ primary school in the Ward of Yardley offers the chance to build valuable SEN experience in a setting where inclusion, structure, and strong classroom support matter. You will work closely with experienced staff in a role that gives you direct exposure to day-to-day SEND provision, practical intervention, and the support strategies schools use to help pupils access learning more successfully. (url removed)’s eligibility guidance for Enhanced DBS checks was updated on 20 January 2026, and the SEND Code of Practice remains the core statutory guidance for school SEND support in England.
