NOW Education is currently recruiting an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant for a full-time role within a specialist SEND school in Kings Norton. This position is to start ASAP and will continue on a on-going, long-term basis, providing consistent 1:1 support to pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

The school supports pupils who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education and behavioural challenges. It offers a structured and nurturing environment, with a strong focus on therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches to help pupils regulate emotions, re-engage with learning and develop positive relationships.

We are seeking a reliable and resilient Teaching Assistant with strong SEMH experience, who is confident working on a 1:1 basis and can provide a pastoral and supportive guidance to pupils.

The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will primarily work on a 1:1 basis supporting pupils with SEMH needs and following their indiviualised plans. You will play a key role in helping them access learning, manage their emotions and build positive relationships..

Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 support for pupils with SEMH needs
• Support learning activities in line with the teacher’s planning
• Use trauma-informed and pastoral approaches
• Build a strong, trusting relationship with pupils
• Implement consistent behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
• Work closely with teaching staff, SEN teams and pastoral support
• Help maintain a safe, calm and structured learning environment

What We’re Looking For
• Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (essential)
• Experience working within a SEND/SEMH school setting (essential)
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
• Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional needs
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils and making a positive impact
